  1. I have been a fan of this musical for years, and am disappointed that Tim Minchin was cast in it. The show has had some amazing atheist/non religious performers in it, but Minchin’s disgusting tirades against religion will put me off seeing this. Hopefully the winner of the ITV show will be great.

    • Ridiculous! The show is quite clever in that it avoids directly commenting on religion while telling the story. The personal views of the participants are totally irrelevant. Personally I tend to agree with Tim Minchin’s views on religion, however, I doubt that will be crossing my mind as I enjoy the performance!

    • Tim Minchin was unbelievably brave in exposing the Catholic church for its cover-up of their priests abusing young and teenage children. He is anti-religion for its hypocrisy and corruption- not because of his own particular beliefs and understanding , which are not the issue here – or certainly shouldn’t be – he is a fine actor, musician and comedian – commendable in every respect – and he will be a brilliant Judas because he will deliver passion and angst in its true sense

    • It’s a shame that you felt that way, but perhaps went to see it anyway in the end. As someone who thought they knew the show and didn’t particularly like Tim Minchin, I went to see it at the O2, he was absolutely amazing in it. The best performer in it in fact! Needless to say, I now view Tim in a completely different way!

    • One does not need to agree with all personal views of a musician to appreciate his/her works. It is only natural that everyone has their own likes and dislikes, but the talent and hard work involved in Tim’s performances can be recognized objectively as a fact.

  3. Andrew- if ur reading this- please keep it to its roots and lets have a real gutsy rock feel with loud guitars and please dont put awful ballad like reverb on the drums- keep ‘em gutsy like the original record from tge 70s – still havent heard anyone beat bruce rowlands performance….

    • Much as I agree with you about the character of the music, it’s pretty inevitable that in an arena everything will have a ten second reverb on it, even if it’s mixed completely dry. Wouldn’t it be lovely if one day the powers that be did a proper theatre production of Superstar, without the stunt casting. Ah well, we can dream…

  4. Tim will be superb. The role could have been written for him. I agree with Tim’s views and am actually a Christian who hates the hypocrisy of church doctrines. I think what is more important is the fact that Tim happens to be a very lovely and caring person. He will be magnificent and so will the rest of the cast. I can’t wait to see this.

  5. I have never yet actually seen this Musical so I am really looking forward to seeing it, the fact Tim Minchin is playing Judas, I may be byast, me being a HUGE fan of Tims and after meeting him in person I feel he shall be great for this role, not only a great comedian but also an awesome pianist , Actor, etc etc & a fabulous person & if ‘Matilda’ is anything to go by, I sense more awards coming his way.

  6. Really looking forward to this amazing rock musical, Ben Forster I have no doubt will be awesome as Jesus, loved Mel C’s performance on the show, she has real talent and Tim Minchin, a controversial decision by Andrew to make him Judas but I’m sure he will bring a new edge to this role, bring it on, i’m sure Glasgow will be rockin!!!

  7. I can’t wait to see this! I’m a massive fan of Tim and Chris and, if you have seen the show, you would know that they are both perfect for the parts! I know for a fact that Tim has always wanted to play Judas, ever since he was young. This show will be amazing!

  8. Lloydweber fan misses the point somewhat. Minchin has very jaundiced opinions re Catholicism, yet JCSS is about Jesus’ life & the start of Christianity. I’m hoping to go and see the show when it tours, and I am sure I will enjoy it as the classic it is. I truly don’t see Minchin’s views will be detrimental to people attending, there are many more opinionated comedians who have commented on sensitive subjects whose work I would refuse to go & see.

  9. Judas is the driving force behind this show, and he’s a tricky character. I’ve heard less experienced/less talented actors make him out to be envious and petulant, and taking that perspective hugely detracts from the show. Tim Minchin may be best known as a comedian whose schtick is music, but it’s the other way around; the man is a truly gifted musician who turned out to be really funny, too. I think his voice is beautifully suited for the music in the show.

Tim may spend a lot of time mocking the institutions of organized religion, but he doesn’t do it blindly. Read interviews with him and you can see that he’s done his homework, and that he’s a man who likes to see both sides of the coin.

  10. I have just seen this in Sheffield and I was looking forward to seeing Tim most of all. I was not disappointed, he is true star and ridiculously sexy as Judas, I am now a fan for life!
