Background:

Tim lives in the heart of Birmingham with his wife of two years and their cat called Sausage. He started piano lessons at the age of 7 and would get frustrated that he had to learn “boring classical songs” when all he wanted to do was play cool pop songs like Queen or make up his own. When asked to sing in his piano lessons, Tim refused realising he had a real phobia about singing in public. A friend played him Steve Balsamo’s version of Gethsemane and having heard it once, Tim took the CD and locked himself in his room to learn it. He had often worried about his voice because it was high and a bit “abnormal.” But hearing Steve Balsamo his opinion changed

He works as a co-ordinator for a children’s music charity called ‘Sounded Out.’ where he runs projects for young people organising fund raising, working with schools, young offenders and in local communities.

How did it feel when you found out you got through to the live finals?

By the time Andrew told me I’d got through to the live finals, I was so drained of all emotion that it was actually the most calm I’d been! All the elimination rounds affected me and had me reacting in different ways, mostly because I hadn’t expected to get through any of them. Having Andrew tell me I’d made it to the top ten was something I never expected to hear, only after I stepped outside to tell Amanda that I’d made it, did it start to sink in.

What can we expect from you in the live shows?

I am so happy to be able to have an input into the songs I have planned for the live shows. They’re diverse, strong and melodic with a few surprising choices too. I want the audience to be able to see the journey that I’ve been on over the past 4 months. Superstar has been the experience I needed to realise that this is now what I want to do, and should be doing, for the rest of my life.

How has the experience been for you so far?

For me, even attending the first audition was a big deal. I was out of my comfort zone, but the deciding factor was not having anything to lose by doing it. I wanted to be considered for this process because of the role of Jesus, it’s a dream role, and the soundtrack was the thing that inspired me to sing all those years ago. This whole experience has been a confidence boost for me. I have been able to be more comfortable in my own skin than I have ever known. Working alongside professional coaches, Andrew Lloyd Webber, the ITV and Superstar crew and the other finalists has been an absolute pleasure and I want to thank each of them for helping me realise my potential as a performer and not just a writer or musician.

What would winning Superstar mean to you and how do you think it will change your life?

I have been stubbornly fighting for a career in music since leaving University over 10 years ago. This would be the best opportunity I have ever had to prove that I have what it takes to succeed and that I have been right to follow my heart. I want to be able to provide my wife and I with a better and more comfortable life that will result in a happier, more content me. This really is the time for me to make something of myself and I hope that I have demonstrated a professional and courteous work ethic along with a flare and talent that will allow me to finally achieve something in music.
